Montessori School

St. Matthew's Montessori School was founded in 2002 with the mission of bringing Christ's Children closer to Him through Dr. Maria Montessori's Science-based Philosophy and Anglican-Catholic Tradition. Each child's unique gifts, growth, and development exemplify six core values instilled in our Students, Staff, and School Community. These foundational principles are the 'Vision, Values, and Beliefs' of our School:

  • Faith: Living and teaching Christian Gospel Values and Anglican-Catholic Traditions

  • Excellence: Pursuing standards of excellence in all things

  • Justice: Demonstrating fairness, compassion, and advocating for the educationally challenged and gifted

  • Respect: Respecting self, others and our world

  • Integrity: Acting with honesty and openness

What We Offer

St. Matthew's Montessori School, nestled in the heart of Newport Beach, California, is an authentic early childhood Montessori education program enrolling seventy-five students, 2.9 years of age (and fully potty trained) to 6.5 years of age. St. Matthew’s credentialed teachers prepare our Preschool and Transitional/Kindergarten classroom environments  for optimal learning experiences within the framework of Dr. Maria Montessori's philosophy, during the child's sensitive learning period from three to six years of age.

Montessori's five foundational subjects, peace, grace, and courtesy, coupled with extracurricular curriculum, embody a holistic approach to assisting St. Matthew's students to become competent and productive individuals with great focus and joy on the development of their moral, behavioral, emotional, spiritual, and intellectual growth.

The Role of Faith

St. Matthew's Montessori School is a Christian Preschool through Transitional/Kindergarten in the tradition of the Anglican Catholic Faith. We believe that Jesus is the Son of God and the Savior of the world. Our teachers are believing and practicing Christians. Our classrooms display symbols of faith. Our curriculum includes age-appropriate Bible stories. We say grace before meals and pray at other times. We observe the major feasts of the Christian year. We believe that faith is not merely one part of life. Faith is the assumption that governs all aspects of life.
