Parish Gatherings

Join us for our regular Parish gatherings and various community events. For individual upcoming offerings, please see our Events page or see our church calendar.

Board Game Club

If you hear the word “boardgame” and think Monopoly or Risk or Chutes and Ladders, you are in for quite a wonderful surprise! We are in the golden age of boardgaming. Boardgames are better, more fun, more engaging, and more whimsical and beguiling than ever before. Immerse yourself in the ancient Mediterranean, explore space frontiers, race camels around a pyramid, settle south sea islands under the threat of erupting volcanoes, curate a medieval bamboo garden for the Japanese emperor’s giant panda, run a vast railroad empire—the list is nearly endless! We want to draw you into the most lovely of hobbies, a hobby that will get families off their screens and interacting with each other in hilarious and profound ways. Come out and join other novices every 2nd Sunday of the month at noon and 4th Sunday at 5pm in the St. Barnabas Pavilion. There will be games of varying experience levels to enjoy, followed by highlight reveals and community around the firepit. Please contact Josh Watson or Kevin Ryan for more information.

Faith & Film Club

The Faith & Film Club meets to watch and discuss films of excellent artistry and significant cultural contribution, but which also offer a commentary or point of dialogue with the Christian life. We view these films as a community, and then discuss their composition, meaning, and impact as we seek to grow together in a thoughtful, Christian engagement with culture. Previous films have included: Minari, Spirited Away, Of Gods and Men, Babette's Feast, and Marcel the Shell with Shoes On. Please subscribe to St. Matthew’s weekly newsletter for updates on our next film.

Young Adults Ministry

The St. Matt's young adults' group meets at 5:00pm on the first Sunday of each month. For our purposes, the phrase "young adults" is loosely defined as college students and young professionals. We gather for potlucked dinner, prayer, and fellowship around the St. Matt's fire pit. Email Alea at a.mariepeister@gmail.com with any questions.

Monthly Day Retreats

In order to create space for rest, reflection, prayer, and meditation, we host monthly full or half day retreats on the last Saturday of the month at the church. We begin with Morning Prayer, followed by a meditation and time of silence and prayer, and conclude with Mass. For more information, please contact Fr. Hayden at hayden@stmatthewsnewport.com.
