Service Ministries

Service to our local community is a natural extension of the church’s life of prayer. We are committed to helping our community through experienced and knowledgeable organizations like the OC Rescue Mission, with whom we partner so that we may practice a communal habit of generosity while doing so with prudence and accountability. We also partner with overseas missions to support their work abroad, and St. Matthew’s currently supports efforts in South Sudan, the Democratic Republic of Congo, South Africa, Haiti, and Pakistan.

Church Volunteer Opportunities

Children’s Ministry: Children's Ministry is our fastest growing ministry at St. Matthew's, and we need support from volunteers to make it successful and safe for our littlest parishioners. Please fill out a volunteer interest form or contact Rachael Crews for more information: childrensministry@stmatthewsnewport.com

Hospitality: Our hospitality ministry serves at our Sunday services and evensong events! This team is responsible for our beloved coffee, as well as making all guests feel welcome. Please contact Rachael Crews at hospitality@stmatthewsnewport.com if you have a desire to serve on the Hospitality Team.

Altar Guild: Our faithful Altar Guild keeps our sanctuary beautiful and ready for worship, but they are short-handed. If you would like to work in the contemplative space of the Altar Guild talk with Vicky Smith or email the church staff at office@stmatthewsnewport.com

Ushers: Ushers are the face of the church to visitors and help maintain a prayerful atmosphere inside the church on Sundays and Special Events. For more info, please contact Joel West at joel.west@cox.net

Production Team: As we continue to expand our online presence, our need for volunteers with experience in live-streaming, sound mixing, podcasts, video production, and related tech fields has also grown. If you would like to offer your creative and tech savvy talents to this ministry, please contact Andrew Van Vlear at media@stmatthewsnewport.com

Local Community

Orange County Rescue Mission: Service to our local community is a natural extension of the church’s life of prayer. We are committed to helping our community through experienced and knowledgeable organizations like the OC Rescue Mission, with whom we partner so that we may practice a communal habit of generosity while doing so with prudence and accountability.

Global Partnerships

We also partner with overseas missions to support their work abroad, and St. Matthew’s currently supports efforts in South Sudan, the Democratic Republic of Congo, South Africa, Haiti, and Pakistan. For more information, please contact Dn. John Crews, our Global Mission Communications Coordinator at
jcrews@stmatthewsnewport.com.

The Global Missions Coordinator assists the Rector by communicating with our mission partners around the world and by reporting to our parish about their growth, challenges, and needs.
