St. Matthew’s Church believes that worship is the proper response of created beings to the God who made them. In worship, the church is called to “come up hither” (Revelation 4:1) and enter into the eternal worship of God revealed in Revelation 4 and 5. Together with the rest of Creation, our song—“Holy, holy, holy is the LORD God Almighty” (Isaiah 6:3, Revelation 4:8)—endures in all times and in all places.
Psalm 96:9 calls us to “Worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness.” Anglican liturgy, rooted in the Book of Common Prayer and the rich tradition of English music, reflects the holiness and beauty of God and teaches us to approach God with reverence and awe. Reverence cultivates the humility that enables us to receive God’s grace (Isaiah 57:15).
We worship according to the biblical pattern of Word and Sacrament (Luke 24:13-31). As the Bible is read and preached, Jesus is revealed to us. As we receive the Body and Blood of Jesus, we experience union with God in Christ through the Spirit; and we are united with each other in Christ. “We being many are one bread, and one body: for we are all partakers of that one bread” (1 Corinthians 10:17).
7:45 AM – Holy Communion
This is a spoken mass that does not include any organ, choir, or hymns. As a quieter service, attendees benefit from a contemplative worship setting led by a priest or, occasionally, a deacon.
9:00 AM – Holy Communion
At this service, you will hear the organ and choir at several points throughout the service, and hymns are corporately sung. Unlike our 11:00 AM service, this mass does not include incense or two musical additions by the choir. During this service, the children at the 9:00 AM Children’s Church will file in to attend the Communion portion of the service.
10:00 AM – Education Hour
A variety of options are available for education throughout the year. Seasonal courses, Bible Studies, confirmation classes, and Children’s Sunday School are available. Check our calendar for more information on current education topics.
11:00 AM – Holy Communion
This service features a full mass, with choir, organ, hymns, and incense.
Childcare and children’s programming is available every Sunday. Nursery care begins at 8:30 AM on Sunday mornings. Our nursery is staffed by two adult care providers. It is a safe, loving, and comfortable environment for infants and toddlers, up to three-year-olds. We also welcome youth from preschool-age through 5th grade to participate in a special children’s liturgy, conducted during our 9am church service. Children learn the elements of the worship taking place in the main sanctuary. They learn the seasons of the church year, and memorize Bible verses and age appropriate songs. These experiences prepare them for the day when they will worship in Church with their families.
