Chapel Choir (ages 3-5)

The Chapel Choir follows the Kindermusik curriculum engineered for a Child’s Brain, Body, Heart, and Soul. We are excited to offer education for the whole person. The children have a wonderful time of play and discovery as they engage with each other and many for the first time discover that singing brings joy to their young souls.
Music is powerful and is a wonderful conduit for learning, especially in young children. When paired with movement and instrument play, it creates neurological magic, lighting up a child’s brain and positively impacting all areas of development. The benefits of music education are truly transformational.
The music class takes place during the first hour and is followed by outside play. Following outside play, they will settle in for story time or a movie with popcorn. Jesus loves the little children and our prayer is that they will know more of His love through music. They will perform on Christmas Eve and at the end of Year Banquet.

Bishops Choir (ages 6-8)
Entry into the Bishops Choir is a true milestone for the young child as it marks the first opportunity to perform with the older children. They continue with their studies but will begin memory work of The Lord’s Prayer, The Apostles Creed, A morning hymn and an evening hymn. They will also begin their basic introduction to Latin as well as an introduction to Music Theory. Outside play time will include various games and sports. The performances for this year will be Advent Lessons and Carols and Easter Evensong.

Cathedral Choir (ages 9-13)
Admission into the Cathedral Choir assumes a level of commitment and willingness to put forth effort in the pursuit of excellence. Studies will include, but are not limited to Liturgical Latin, Music Theory and the Art of Singing – along with Introduction to Guitar and Sports. We accept beginners as well as more experienced singers. You will receive a detailed calendar of rehearsals and performances.

Schola Cantorum (14-18)
High Schoolers will expand their study of Music Theory and Singing Technique by participating in performances of the mixed voices ensemble. New this year will be a program called “Coffee Talk” which will include a brief overview of topics ranging from Philosophy, Drawing, and Shakespeare to Markets and Finance taught by professionals from the community of St Matthew’s. Also new this year is the addition of the art of guitar playing. We will explore electric and acoustic guitar with classical guitarist Michael Hubbard. The performance schedule will be handed out at Registration.

It is our prayer that you will utilize these long time slots for personal enrichment. We hope you will go on a date, rest, study, take a walk, or just relish the time alone.
